Red Hat has eliminated the position of Fedora Program Manager as part of the previously declared 4% reduction in staff. Bena Cotton, who previously held this post, has been fired for reasons that are not disclosed.
The Fedora Program Manager was responsible for various duties including planning for the release of Fedora Linux, monitoring changes in the development process, coordinating work on releases, managing elections to the Managing Council and Technical Committee, and providing advice on project management. The position also included forming reports on the status of development for error correction and decision-making on the removal of inactive packages.
It is unclear why the position was eliminated, but the move is part of Red Hat’s efforts to reduce its workforce. The company has not announced any other staff reductions at this time.
Red Hat is a software company that provides open-source solutions in operating systems, storage, middleware, and cloud technologies. It was acquired by IBM in 2019 for $34 billion, making it the largest software acquisition in history.
