Synthstrom Audible has opened the firmware for its popular musical equipment, Deluge. Deluge combines a sound synthesizer, sampler, Gruvbox and sequences for creating electronic music and organizing live performances. The code will be published on Github on June 5 under the GPLV3 license.
Once the code is opened, Synthstrom Audible will ensure that the official code base will support it, and it will publish new firmware issues. The company will also create a repository for a community with firmware for different options for the synthesizer. This will allow a fork of the official repository to develop, allowing the reception of changes from third-party developers. The only restriction on the use of firmware is the fulfillment of the GPLV3 license. The code can be used in commercial projects, but the changes made to it will need to be opened under the same license.
Firmware collected on the basis of forks can be installed on a synthesizer. For example, users may wish to use additional and experimental opportunities developed by the community. Synthstrom Audible notes that the installation of third-party firmware assemblies will not violate warranty obligations regarding the equipment, but the company will not provide technical support for unofficial firmware. As the project develops, innovations proposed by the community will be transferred to official firmware.
The opening of the firmware is expected to bring new opportunities for users to customize their Deluge devices. It is hoped that this move will help improve the performance of the synthesizer, sampler, and other features. Synthstrom Audible is confident that the community will provide exciting new opportunities for users.
