Developers of the popular email client Thunderbird have recently released their financial report for 2022, which shows they received $6.4 million in donations, enabling them to continue successful development. This represents a significant increase from the $1.5 million raised in 2019, $2.3 million in 2020, and $2.8 million in 2021.
According to the report, Thunderbird’s project expenses for 2022 amounted to $3.569 million, of which 79.8% was spent on staff-related costs. At present, the project employs 24 people, compared to 15 in 2020 and 20 in 2021. A further 6.9% of the expenses were attributed to administration, and 0.3% to marketing. The remaining expenses covered professional services, tax management, and agreements with Mozilla.
Based on available statistics, Thunderbird currently has approximately 8-9 million active users per day and 17 million active users per month, with the same figures as a year ago. Of these active users, 95% use Thunderbird on the Windows platform, 4% on MacOS, and 1% on Linux.
