Experimental Packet Control Branch-Based Advanced Package Tool (APT) 2.7 Released
The packet control branch of Advanced Package Tool (APT) has formed on version 2.7, as per the announcement on Github. The release is experimental and will undergo stabilization before the production of version 2.8, which will be integrated into Debian Testing and enter the DEBIAN 13 release. Additionally, it will also be included in the Ubuntu base package.
Apart from Debian and its distribution derivatives, APT-RPM fork is employed in some RPM package manager-based distributions like PClinuxos and Alt Linux.
The latest APT version supports snapshots through the “SSNAPSHOT” option (” -S “). It allows users to connect with repository servers that support snapshots and choose a repository archive state. For instance, specifying “–snapshot 202302t030405z” enables access to the repository archive condition recorded on May 2, 2023, at 03:04:05.
APT sections :: Snapshot sets up snapshots in Source-List files, while the update (“-u”) option automates the synchronization of indices before opening the cache and processing Sources.List during installation or update commands (APT Upgrade).
Users can access the initial support for snapshots by adding the new issue, available on Github to their package management systems.
