New Censorship Method Blocks Encrypted Traffic in Real Time in China
The Great Chinese Firewall (GFW) has implemented a new censorship methodology that can now block completely encrypted traffic in real time. This new censorship technique poses a significant challenge to internet users in China as encrypted protocols are an important element of solutions for bypassing internet censorship. These protocols include vmess among others.
In August 2015, the creator of Clowwindy, a proxy application used for bypassing the GFW, revealed that the police had contacted him and he would no longer be able to support the project. The code was then promptly removed from GitHub. Three days later, the Goagent application was also removed from the same site, drawing attention from news agencies and raising arguments about its possible connection to a DDOS attack aimed at GitHub which occurred just days later.
