Oracle has recently published the latest version of its virtualization system, VirtualBox 7.0.10.10 with a total of 23 corrections. At the same time, they have also released updates for the previous branch, VirtualBox 6.1.46, which includes 14 changes. These updates bring support for the Linux 6.4 kernel and packages with kernels from Rhel 8.8, 8.9, and 9.3. You can find more information about the updates here.
Here are the main changes in VirtualBox 7.0.10:
- Added initial support for OpenGL 4.1.
- For guest systems based on Linux, Linux 6.4 kernel support has been added. The installer has been improved, and an issue with kernel module reversal on systems without X11 has been resolved. Additionally, the crash of the kernel during the Vboxvideo module reboot in certain guest systems has been fixed.
- For hosts based on Linux, initial support for the Linux 6.5 kernel has been added (guest systems do not yet support this). Moreover, the implementation of the IBT protection mechanism has been added, which can be found here.
- Support for the RHEL 8.8, 8.9, and 9.3 kernel distributions has been implemented for both hosts and guest systems based on Linux. Additionally, the verification system for the kernel modules has been improved with better digital signature verification of applications.
- The Pipewire-Pulse system now ensures the use of the PulseAudio sound server as a backend instead of falling back to Alsa sound system.
