This morning, users from Russia faced difficulties when trying to go to the Wikipedia website. The Globalcheck Site Monitoring Service shows that the blocking has begun about three in the morning of Moscow time and is still ongoing.
According to downloadetor, Wikipedia access problems were also observed in other countries, including the United States, Great Britain, Germany, and France. However, these problems were short-term and quickly eliminated. In Russia, the availability of the site has not been restored.
It is possible that for some reason Wikipedia blocked part of the Russian IP addresses (for example, in order to combat DDOS attacks), and still has not stopped blocking them.
Wikipedia is the world’s largest online encyclopedia, which contains more than 55 million articles in different languages. The site is a non-profit project and is supported by volunteers and donations.
