Canon Printers Vulnerable: Wi-Fi Passwords Exposed After Reset

In a recent development, Canon has identified a safety issue in its printers. It has been discovered that when the printer is reset to factory settings, the memory storing the parameters of the wireless network connection is not cleared, posing a potential risk. Canon has acknowledged this problem in a public advisory.

This vulnerability could potentially lead to the exposure of accounting data for connecting to the wireless network of an enterprise. In cases where equipment is sold or transferred to third parties, this poses a significant risk. As a precaution, Canon advises that before transferring devices to outsiders, it is recommended to perform additional operations to remove Wi-Fi settings. After the factory reset, users should activate the wireless connection and then reset it again as a safety measure.
