Liam Suin, a programming professional, applied the possibilities for creating the last two volumes of George Martin’s epic “The Song of Ice and Flame”, namely the “Winds of winter” and “Spring Dreams”. Developer: AI impressed it with performance, but he is not able to completely replace the skill of human authors, at least today. Project on, where those who wish can familiarize themselves with two books.
In a dialogue with the IGN, Swayne detailed his creative approach. Having initiated the work of ChatGPT, he instructed AI to form a frame of future events for the first chapter of the Winter Winds. This procedure was repeated for 45 chapters, after which the “raw” sketches were transferred for processing to the neural network with the aim of their details. Ultimately, these enriched sketches served as the basis for creating chapters, where each sketch point has turned into a separate scene.
Suin expressed his appreciation to Chatgpt, noting that the neural network showed an impressive ability to perceive a huge number of characters in the book and build complex storylines for them. As an example, Suin was mentioned by Illyrio Mopatis: II turned on the character in the first few paragraphs of the book, then Illyrio disappeared for a while, returning for one scene with Varis, after which he disappeared again. At the same time, Chatgpt is able to recall Illyrio and harmoniously fit it into the plot where his presence was justified.
Unfortunately, the digital creation could not fully master the facet of creativity inherent in Martin – to ruthlessly take away the lives from his favorite heroes. Despite the abundance of episodes with deaths represented by ChatGPT, not a single “exciting” loss was discovered during two books.
However, despite this, she worthy of the development of the overall storyline. Swayne shares the thought of how AI skillfully reveals the betrayal of John Conndington, who rises against Daenerys Targaryen, in one of the chapters. This moment has become one of its best reading options in the version of the books created by AI. And in the “dreams of spring” AI conceived a prophecy for Bran about the northern wall, not only a physical barrier, but also a mystical shield that restrains the power of the King of the Night. According to Swayne, this is quite fit into the Martinovsky Universe.
Suine admits that this project has introduced “more optimism about the future writers and AI”:
more optimism.
“This project proves that powerful language models, such as ChatGPT, are able to take into account hundreds of pages of text when creating a narrative solution, which can help the authors quickly fill the gaps in the plot. But it also showed that II can only repeat what has already been done earlier. This project has introduced confidence that artificial intelligence will not be able to create unique literary masterpieces. To my surprise, I became more confident than before the start of this project, that writers who are able to make unexpected creative decisions are indispensable. “
