Pentesters Spot Rival in Cybersecurity AI

In a new Bugcrowd report for 2023, it has been highlighted that generative AI is becoming an increasingly important tool in the world of hacking. However, 72% of hackers are confident that AI cannot completely replace the human mind.

According to the study:

  1. 55% of respondents believe that generative AI is already surpassing hackers in skills or will be able to do so within the next five years.
  2. 72% of respondents are certain that generative AI will not be capable of replicating the creativity of hackers in security research and vulnerability management.
  3. Generative AI is primarily used for automating tasks (50%), data analysis (48%), identifying vulnerabilities (36%), testing results (35%), and gathering intelligence (33%).
  4. 64% of respondents believe that generative AI and its technology have increased the value of ethical hacking and security research.

The study also provided insights into the demographics of hackers:

  1. The majority of hackers belong to the Z generation (57%) and millennials (28%). 96% of respondents identified themselves as men, 4% as women, and 0.2% as non-binary.
