The experimental release of Wine 8.12, an open implementation of Winapi, took place recently, according to an announcement on the WineHQ website. This release comes with 356 closed changes and fixes for 31 reported errors since the previous version, 8.11.
Some of the most important changes in Wine 8.12 include continued work on adding full support for Wine environments based on the Wayland protocol, without the need for XWALAND or X11 components. The Winewayland.drv driver has been added to provide initial support for windows surrounded by Wayland.
Additionally, improvements have been made to the performance of command flows in Wined3D. Several errors related to specific applications and games have also been addressed in this release.
Specifically, errors related to applications such as Excel 2016, Rosetta Stone, Reading Counts, World Religions, Parashara’s Light Professional 7.0.1, SlingPlayer 1.5, Winamp 5.80, Free Video Convert ER, Sierrachart, Design Doll, and Navigraph Fms Data Manager have been fixed.
In regards to games, errors related to Combat Mission Shock Force, Starcraft II, and Loading Bay / Harry Potter Magic Awakened have also been resolved.
