Q4OS 5.2, a new distribution based on the DEBIAN package base and equipped with KDE Plasma 5 and trinity, has been released. The distribution aims to be hardware resource-friendly and offers a classic desktop design. Users can have both KDE Plasma and trinity installed on their system and switch between them. Q4OS includes several in-house developed applications, such as ‘Desktop Profiler’ for quick software installation, ‘setup utility’ for installing third-party applications, ‘WelCome Screen’ for simplifying initial setup, and scripts for installing alternative LXQT, XFCE, and LXDE environments. The loading image for Q4OS 5.2 is 1.1 GB (x86_64) and can be downloaded from the Q4OS stable repository on SourceForge.
The new release of Q4OS incorporates the package base synchronization with Debian 12. Prior to the release, the Trinity desktop was updated to version 14.1.1, while KDE Plasma was updated to version 5.27.5. By default, KDE Plasma uses the decoration topic present in Debian. However, users can also choose the Q4OS – DeBonaire theme separately in the settings. The new desktop profile feature allows users to create their own profiles, including a specific desktop condition and a pre-installed set of applications. These profiles can be used to recreate the environment after a fresh installation on a new computer. In the near future, Q4OS plans to release assemblies for 32-bit systems X86 (I686PAE) and initiate the preparation of assemblies for ARM architecture.
