Yandex.Music, the popular streaming platform, has announced its partnership with the Association of the Musical Industry (Ami) to introduce a new system for moderating musical content. This system, powered by machine learning technologies and manual verification, will carefully analyze compositions for any form of unacceptable or adult content.
The purpose of this new system, according to the company, is to accurately identify and label adult content with an Explicit icon. This measure aims to safeguard children who use the platform’s children’s mode. Additionally, it will also help identify sensitive topics that may cause discomfort among students.
Valery Drobysh, the general director of Ami, emphasized the importance of having a content policy for musical streaming platforms. He stated, “It is crucial to strike a balance between the interests and comfort of students and the ability for artists to express themselves.”
Politicians have expressed their support for this new system. Alexander Khinshtein, the head of the State Duma information committee, expressed hope that this hybrid moderation approach will prevent incidents involving unacceptable content. Anton Gorelykin, a State Duma deputy, commended this initiative as an example of successful self-regulation in the market, where companies proactively aim to create a safe and comfortable online environment without relying solely on user complaints.
