Ubuntu 23.10 to feature new Snap-focused app manager

The Autumn output Ubuntu 23.10 plan includes a new graphic interface for App Store installations, which prioritizes SNAP packages and is primarily designed to support this format. The new application is also capable of working with repositories in Deb format and installing individual Deb packets from local files. The application code is written in the DART language using the Flutter framework and is licensed under the GPLV3.

The application allows users to search and navigate the packet catalog at snapcraft.io as well as Deb repositories. It also provides control over the installation, removal, and update of applications, including firmware updates. When a program is available in both DEB and SNAP packages, Snap is selected as the default.

Unlike the previous application manager in Software App, the new application uses a Like/Not Like (+1/-1) voting system instead of a five-point assessment scale. Based on this feedback, a virtual five-star rating is displayed. The interface is designed using adaptive methods, allowing elements to be optimally arranged on both large monitors and smartphone screens. The dark theme is also supported.
