Anonfiles – Popular File-Sharing Platform Shuts Down
The widely used anonymous file exchange platform, Anonfiles, has officially shut down. The platform’s administrators have cited ongoing user abuse and the ensuing difficulties in managing the service as reasons for its closure. Anonfiles provided a convenient way for users to distribute stolen data, copyrighted materials, and compromised accounts.
Just five days ago, users attempting to download files from Anonfiles started encountering errors. Cybersecurity researcher G0NJXA revealed that the service had completely stopped functioning. Anonfiles’ operators clarified that their proxy server supplier had already discontinued their services, leading to the platform’s shutdown.
In a statement provided by Anonfiles:
“After two years of tirelessly trying to maintain an anonymous file-sharing platform, we have grown tired of dealing with an overwhelming number of users who abuse our service. It has become a major headache for us. We have automated various systems to quickly detect and block malicious files, resulting in the blocking of hundreds of thousands of them. We implemented filters for specific phrases and templates. At some point, we even unintentionally deleted harmless files. Despite all our efforts, the flow of violations never ceased. This is not the outcome we anticipated when acquiring this project, and our proxy server supplier recently cut off our access. We have reached a point where we can no longer continue.”
“As a result, we have put the domain up for sale.”

While Anonfiles was a useful platform for many, some users complained about the presence of dubious advertisers on the site. These advertisers often redirected users to harmful software, fraudulent support services, and unwanted browser extensions.
One user reported encountering viruses, including infostilers, rat, and clickers, when attempting to download an ISO file with a similar name from the platform. In 2021, Cronup researcher warned about the transmission of Redline Stealer, an accounting data and cryptocurrency-based malware, through Anonfiles.
