Firefox Enables Importing Additions from Other Browsers

In a move to enhance user experience, the Firefox web browser is developing an opportunity to import additions from other browsers. This feature will work similarly to the existing functions of importing bookmarks, settings, saved passwords, and browsing history. As an experiment, the browser has already enabled the import of add-ons for a small percentage of Firefox users, specifically 116. Others can activate this function by modifying the parameter “browser.migrate.chrome.extensions.enabled” in the ABOUT: Config settings. Once activated, users will see an option to transfer their add-ons in the data import dialogue under “Import Data” in the ABOUT: Preferences#General page.

Currently, the support for transferring 73 add-ons from the Chrome browser is available. This transfer is based on a comparison of identifiers between Chrome and Firefox. If a certain add-on exists in both browsers, Firefox will install the native version instead of the Chrome version. For example, if Ublock Origin is installed in Chrome, Firefox will install the Ublock Origin from the catalog of addons.mozilla.org.
