KDE Project Releases Gear 23.08

The KDE project has presented the August application update (23.08) for KDE Gear, the consolidated set of KDE applications. This update includes issues of 544 programs, libraries, and plugins. More information about the update can be found at this page. LIVE Greenhouses with new applications can also be accessed at this page.

The most noticeable innovations in this update include:

  • In the Dolphin file manager, temporary files and backup files are now hidden by default. The update also adds an indicator to show the progress of calculating the size of elements. Additionally, the information panel now displays information about the selected file rather than the file the cursor is on. The update also introduces support for quick duplication of tabs through a double click and provides new elements in the contextual menu for easy movement and copying between panels.
  • The Okular document viewer now has expanded capabilities for PDF documents with digital signatures. Users can now add various metadata to signatures, including explanations and location information, as well as place a background image with the signature. The button for creating a signature has been moved to the upper level of the menu. Okular also adds a scaling mode for default printing and an option to copy annotation text to the desktop.
