China will begin to cooperate with the organs of Thailand and Laos to combat cyber residents from Myanmar. Recently, they are often aimed at citizens and organizations of the PRC. The Ambassador of China to Myanmar, Chen Hai, called on colleagues to coordinate actions that will help prevent incidents in the future.
At the meeting, officials presented a plan for the joint struggle against cybercrime activity: from online canry and gambling to trafficking in people. Myanmar offers assistance in investigations and taking measures.
In the Chinese city of Chiangmai, a specialized police center was opened, which will become a platform for the exchange of information and developing security strategies.
It is known that the Chinese themselves also provide assistance to groups from Myanmar. Typically, citizens are offered to invest money or promise a good job, and then they are forced to participate in fraudulent schemes.
The topic has become especially relevant in the PRC after the release of the film “There Are No More Bets” in August. The film follows the story of young people from Southeast Asia who, according to the plot, fall into the hook of cyber scams, risking their lives and freedom. One of the heroes in the film ends his life in suicide, becoming a victim of an online casino. The story is based on real events and has already raised more than a billion yuan at the box office.
In the Chinese media, more and more frightening examples appear. For example, recently a 20-year-old young man named Chen went missing 20 days after crossing the border with Myanmar. Parents had to pay a ransom before he managed to return home last week. According to investigators, a gang from the Myanmar region Kokang was involved in the case. This area borders on the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan and is known as a large center of cybercrime.
The investigation into similar cases continues, and the first arrests have already been reported.
