The project almalinux has announced the creation of two new repositories to publish packages that differ from Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
The first repository, called synergy, offers additional packages that are initially absent in the Rhel package base and the Epel repository, fulfilling the demands of Almalinux users. It acts as an extension to Epel, meaning that if a similar package exists in Epel, the corresponding package from Almalinux will be removed from Synergy.
The Synergy repository already features packages with Pantheon’s user environment, as well as those developed by the Elementary OS project. It also includes related applications and components such as Zeitgeist, Rygel, Plank, Gala, Folks Pantheon, Gupnp, Switchboard, Xcursorgen, Granite, Mdbtools, Malcontent, Libgpod, Libgda, LibadWaita-1.0.0, dee, and BAMF. Additionally, the repository offers the Warpinator utility, developed by the Linux Mint project, which facilitates encrypted file exchange between two computers. The Synergy repository is compatible with Almalinux OS 8 and 9 branches, as well as any other distributions based on RHEL 8.x and 9.x, including Rhel and Centos.
The second repository, named testing, will house packages aimed at eliminating vulnerabilities that have not yet been released by Red Hat for the Rhel package base. This repository allows for early access to fixes in Almalinux OS 8 and Almalinux OS 9, but it is not recommended for use in production environments, as the proposed fixes have not undergone full testing.
