Registration is now open for the Open OS Challenge 2023, a system programming competition conducted by the Russian Development Development Development Service and ANO Development Center for Innovation Technologies “IT planet”. The competition will offer tasks based on real assignments from large companies and will focus on systemic programming for products based on the Linux-Distribution Openscaler, which is compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The total prize fund for the competition is 600 thousand rubles, with 300 thousand rubles for the first place winner, 200 thousand rubles for the second place winner, and 100 thousand rubles for the third place winner.
This is the first time the competition has been held and its aim is to popularize the use and development of open operating systems based on GNU components and the Linux kernel. The competition is open to students and specialists from Russia who are over 18 years old, and participation is free. It is designed for programmers with system development skills under OS based on the Linux kernel and GNU components, working in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, Golang, and Rust, and having experience in eliminating open software defects.
As part of the preparation for the competition, participants will have access to webinars that will help increase their competencies in systemic programming and enhance their chances of winning.
The competition will take place in three stages from August 15 to October 22, 2023:
- August 15: Registration and first stage in online testing format.
- September 22: Second online stage of the competition where participants will solve problems related to systemic programming.
- October 21 to 22: Full-time competition for finalists at the Sberuniversity, where the winners will be determined. The organizers will provide accommodation and cover the transportation costs for the finalists.
Openscaler is a localized version of the distribution of Openeuler created by Huawei. It is based on the Centers package base and is jointly developed by the Open Atom Foundation of the Non-Profit Organization. Openeuler features its own package base with the Linux kernel, a GNOME-based desktop, specific optimizations for ARM64 and multi-core systems, a lightweight container system called Isulad, a virtualization stack called stratovirt, a network configurator called Clibcni, tools for setting up security policies called secpaver, and an automatic optimization system for settings called a-tune.
