This Week, US and Poland Authorities Block Popular “Pullen-Proven” Hosting Lolek Hosted
This week, the US authorities and Poland blocked the popular “Pullen-Proven” Hosting Lolek Hosted. This is another step in the fight against platforms that allow cybercriminals to engage in illegal activities anonymously on the internet.
Already on Tuesday, the site of the company appeared from the FBI and the US Tax Service, with the domain being confiscated “as part of a coordinated law enforcement operation.”
Polish law enforcement agencies also participated, including the regional prosecutor’s office in Katowice and the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime in Krakow.
Lolek Hosted is a widely used bulletproof hosting provider that has been based in the UK since 2009. Such services turn a blind eye to any content and promise to protect the anonymity of their customers. They are known for providing IP addresses, servers, and domains to criminals for disseminating malicious programs, forming botnets, and carrying out other campaigns.
In recent years, the owners of such hosting services have been extradited and given long prison terms. For example, in June of this year, a 39-year-old citizen of Romania was sentenced to three years in prison for promoting the Powerhost platform. In 2021, a Russian citizen received a five-year term for creating a similar resource. Additionally, citizens of Estonia and Lithuania, who were leaders of a company that helped carry out cyber attacks on American organizations from 2009 to 2015, were convicted and sentenced to more than two years in prison. Last year, an American citizen who was the owner of bulletproof hosting and sites for conducting DDOS attacks was also sentenced by the court.
