The Medical Center of Mayan A-Yeshua in the city of Bnei-Brak, Israel, has experienced an extortion attack that resulted in disruptions and the halt of administrative systems, according to representatives from the hospital, the national cyber directory, and the Ministry of Health.
Initially, the hospital’s leadership stated that the attack had not affected medical equipment and the routine treatment of patients. However, during the investigation, it was decided to suspend certain procedures and redirect seriously ill patients to other medical facilities.
The hospital staff is receiving assistance from cyber security experts and the Ministry of Health to manage the incident and its aftermath.
Israel has seen attacks using Medical Organizer programs before. In October 2021, Hill Jaffa Hospital in the city of Hadera fell victim to a cyber attack, which turned out to be the largest in the history of the country’s healthcare system. As a result, the administration had to take drastic measures, including printing medical cards for patients and canceling some doctors’ appointments. Similar attacks have also occurred at the State Clinic of Ziv, Haarey Hospitals, and Shiba.
Currently, the nature of the attack on the Mayan A-Yeshua Medical Center remains unknown. It is yet to be determined if patient and employee data, as well as confidential information about the organization, were compromised.
