Android 14 Sets New Cell Safety Standard

Google Introduces New Android Functions for Mobile Device Safety

August 2023

Google presented the new Android Functions, which open a new chapter in the field of safety of mobile devices.

Key Features:

  • Disabling 2G: Android 14 provides IT administrators with tools to disable support for 2G on controlled devices, taking into account obsolete technology safety standards.
  • The struggle with zero encryption: A function is introduced that prevents the use of cellular cipher’s cellular communication, enhancing the confidentiality of user data.
  • Protection against external threats: Android 14 focuses on protection against false base stations (IMSI-slopes or stingrays), which can be used to intercept data.

It is also worth noting that Android 14 uses the principle of “all networks are hostile” to protect users from the introduction, change, or interception of network packages. Google continues to actively cooperate with the community of scientists and standardization companies to develop and improve cellular security standards.
