Continuous Updates: Rhino Linux Distribution Now Available

Presented The first stable release of the distribution rhino linux, which implements a continuous delivery of updates to provide access to the latest versions of programs. New versions of the applications are mainly transmitted from devel Ubuntu repository, in which packages are assembled with new versions applications synchronized with Debian Sid and Unstable. Installation images that can be loaded in Live-mode, prepared for architectures x86_64 (2 GB) and ARM64 (1.9 GB). Separately available assemblies for ARM devices Pinetab, Pinetab2, Pinephone and Raspberry Pi.

Package management is carried out using its own package manager Rhino-PKG (RPK), which implements a binding over the APT, Pacstall, Flatpak and Snap package managers. Rhino-PKG allows you to use one universal utility to perform standard operations with various packages, for example, installing, removing, updating and searching for packages. To assemble the distribution, Livebuild tools are used from the Debian project with modifications borrowed from VanillaOS. To install the distribution, the Calamares installer is involved.

Desktop components, Linux core, loading screensavers, design topics, Firefox browser and utility developed by the project spread through a separate repository pacstall. Package manager pacstall Position as an analogue of the AUR repository (Arch user repository) for Ubuntu and allows third-party developers to distribute their packages without inclusion in the main repository of the distribution.

The organization of the graphic interface is involved its own user environment unicorn, which is a recycled version of XFCE, close in style to GNOME, but remains lightweight. In Unicorn, the developers tried to combine a more modern design with a traditional approach to building a desktop.
