Window Maker 0.96.0 Released with NextStep-Style Interface
After 11 and a half years since the formation of branch 0.95, the long-awaited release of the window manager Window Maker 0.96.0 has finally arrived. This new version of Window Maker provides users with an interface in the style of NextStep. The window manager offers numerous capabilities, including a glass window layout with semi-automatic mosaic layout control, low resource consumption, flexible configuration options through a GUI configurator or text configuration file, dynamic generation of application menus, support for the ICCM standard (Inter-Client Communication Manual), localization support, integration with Gnustep, Gnome, and KDE desktop environments, as well as Nextstep and MacOS X styles. Additionally, Window Maker 0.96.0 features built-in support for different design themes and offers 13 window types. The project’s code is written in the SI language and is available under the GPLv2 license.
New Features in Window Maker 0.96.0
- Implemented the possibility of assigning commands triggered by hovering the mouse cursor in the corners of the screen. By default, the size of the region in which the command is triggered is set to 2 pixels, but it can be changed through the HotCorneredge parameter. Users can also adjust the delay in the cursor’s location on the screen before activation using the HotCornerDeLay option.
- Added the ability to assign keyboard combinations to take screenshots of a specific window, the entire screen, or a selected portion of the screen.
- The Libxres library, which is used to determine the processes responding to window requests, has been moved to the category of optional dependencies.
- Introduced support for the _NET_WM_FULLSCREEN_MONITORS parameter, allowing applications to display full-screen content on systems with multiple monitors.
- Added the Keepdockonprimaryhead setting, which enables the panel to be displayed only on the main monitor in systems with multiple monitors.
