Zoom Updates Conditions of Use for AI Teaching
The popular video conferences service, Zoom, has recently updated its conditions of use to include an unlimited right to use user content for the purpose of teaching artificial intelligence (AI) and testing AI capabilities.
In order to continue using Zoom, users are now required to agree to the possible use of their data for the configuration and training of algorithms and machine learning.
Under the updated conditions, Zoom is granted an unlimited, transferable, sublicensing license, as well as all other rights, to use user content.
Users are requested to provide their consent for Zoom to access, use, collect, create, distribute, process, maintain, and store their data “for any purpose” within the bounds of the law.
According to the updated policy, Zoom will utilize user content specifically for teaching AI and machine learning, if users accept these conditions.
The revised policy also clarifies that any data generated through the use of the service, such as telemetric data, productivity data, and diagnostic data, but not related to user content, remains the sole property of Zoom.
STACK DIARY was the first to report on the changes in the conditions, highlighting that the update effectively allows Zoom to utilize user content for AI teaching without the ability for users to opt out.
In response to these concerns, Zoom stated that customers have the autonomy to decide whether to activate generative AI features and share content with Zoom for product improvement.
“Zoom participants receive a notification during a meeting or a pop-up message in the chat when these functions are activated, and users are fully aware that their data may be used to enhance the product,” explained Zoom.
