Last week in the US Federal Court appeared two sailors of the Navy accused of espionage and theft of secret military information for China for various matters. Military named Jinchao Wei and Wanhan Zhao, apparently having Chinese roots, both declared their innocence.
Accusations Against Jinchao Wei
According to the prosecution, 22-year-old Wei, the sailor from the Essex aircraft carrier was arrested on August 3 and accused of espionage after arriving at the San Diego base. According to the prosecution, two days before, Wei transferred the classified information to the coherent Chinese special services.
It is claimed that since February 2022, Wei, who had access to secret data on ship systems, regularly transmitted photographs, videos and technical guidelines for ship and weapons of the US Navy.
Accusations Against Wanhan Zhao
26-year-old Zhao worked as an electrician at the naval base in California. He is accused of receiving bribes from the Chinese intelligence officer for the transfer of secret data, photos and videos, starting in August 2021.
Statement from US Ministry of Justice
Matt Olsen, a representative of the US Ministry of Justice said that these accusations are demonstrating the determination of the PRC to get important information for their purposes at all costs.
