Asahi Translates Apple ARM Distribution to Fedora Linux

Project Asahi, aimed at porting Linux to Mac computers equipped with ARM chips developed by Apple, has announced a transition to a new basis for its distribution. Previously, the ASAHI Linux test issues were based on the Arch Linux package base. By the end of August 2023, the project plans to switch from Arch Linux ARM to Fedora Linux – Fedora Asahi Remix, developed by the group Fedora asahi sig. The build and installer for Fedora Asahi Remix are already available for testing.

The decision to transition is primarily due to Fedora Linux having official support for ARM64 in its upstream branch. Additionally, the move allows the ASAHI Linux team to focus on the hardware aspect while relying on Fedora Asahi for distribution support. Furthermore, migrating to Fedora will enable Asahi Linux developers to directly interact with Fedora repositories, helping fix issues in software assembly.
