Altinux has recently published its tenth release of starting sets on the tenth platform. These builds, which are based on a stable repository, are tailored for experienced users. The starterkits are diverse Live devices that feature different ALT operating systems for the desktop and window managers (De/WM). Users can also choose to install the system using these LIVE assemblies. The next update is scheduled for December 12, 2023. For more information, please visit the official announcement.
The newly released starterkits are available for three different architectures: X86_64, i586, and AARCH64. These assemblies are based on the Linux version 5.10.194/6.1.51 kernels, with various options available in different images and architectures. Further details can be found on the official starterkits page.
The tenth release incorporates several changes, including:
- In the assemblies for X86_64 and AARCH64 (except XFCE-Sysv), the Linux 6.1.51 (UN-DEF) core is now used.
- The GRUB-PC (Grand Unified bootloader) has been introduced as the bootloader for initializing the nucleus and launching the operating system in ISO-images. However, ISOLINUX is still being used for the XFCE-Sysv and Gnustep-Sysv images.
- The image Jeos-Systemd.img for the X86_64 architecture can now be loaded in both Legacy mode and UEFI mode.
- The size of the ALT-P10-GNOME (ALT-P10-GNOME3) starterkit has been reduced to 1.5 GB.
- ISO images for the X86_64 architecture now include the UEFI Shell tool for manual control and the Memtest86+ RAM testing program (requires Secure Boot).
- A graphic download screen Plymouth has been added for AARCH64.
- The XFCE-Sysv image now includes the packages Xinput, Trafshow, and 7-ZIP.
