Release Chrome 117

Google introduced the release of Web-browser Chrome 117. At the same time, the stable release of the free project Chromium acting as the basis of Chrome is available. Chrome browser is different from Chromium, using Google’s system features including sending notifications in case of collapse, modules for playing video content (DRM), an automatic installation system for updates, constant inclusion of Sandbox insulation, supplying the key to Google API, and transmission when searching for RLZ parameters. For those who need more time to update, the Extended Stable branch is separately supported for 8 weeks. The next issue of Chrome 118 is scheduled for October 10.

Main changes in Chrome 117:

  • Available for testing an updated interface (turns on through “Chrome: // Flags#Chrome-Refresh-2023”), which proposes a more “flat” representation of panels in the style of “Google Material 3”. The system of dynamic color tuning is implemented. The images of the buttons are redrawn. The “V” menu button is transferred to the left side of the panel.

The indicator of the secure data transfer indicator is removed – instead of the lock in the address line, the neutral “Settings” icon is now shown, which does not cause security associations. For connections installed without encryption, the indicator of “not protected” continues to be shown. According to Google, the lock icon is distorted by some users who consider it a sign of the general security of the site and confidence in it, rather than an indicator related to the use of traffic encryption. The icon at the beginning of the address line will now be presented as a button for quick access to the main powers and parameters of the current site.
