Telegram messenger is set to make a new breakthrough in the world of blockchain technologies. Pavel Durov, the founder of the company, announced that starting from November of this year, users outside the United States will have the opportunity to use Ton Wallet, a specialized cryptocurrency wallet. This was stated by Durov himself, who emphasized that this innovation “will open the way for hundreds of innovative functions developed by third parties.” The main goal of the company is to enhance the interaction between blockchain technology and the Ton platform within the messaging app.
The head of the messenger took the opportunity to remind users that the Ton platform was created by Telegram a few years ago. Last year, the Ton platform allowed users to trade their identifiers and names on the auction site called Fragment.
Durov expressed his satisfaction with the success of this project, stating, “Telegram sold digital assets at $120 million at auctions, and the first buyers of some digital assets associated with Telegram, such as the anonymous Telegram numbers, saw a 27-fold increase in their value in just 9 months.” He further noted that this success showcased the potential of Web 3.0 within the Telegram framework.
As a next step towards further integration of blockchain into the messenger, the company collaborated with the Ton community to create a mini-application called Ton Wallet. This new feature will be included in the settings and attachment menu for Telegram users outside the United States, as well as some other countries. Users who have already added the wallet and have the latest version of Telegram will see the wallet option in the menu.
Durov explained, “This step will allow developers to implement hundreds of new valuable functions, similar to those first seen in Fragment. Ton Wallet, as a third-party mini-application inside Telegram, will introduce a completely new Web 3.0 experience to hundreds of millions of Telegram users.”
