Google Extends ChromeOS Device Support to 10 Years

Google has announced an extension of up to 10 years for automatic updates on its Chromebook, model B, according to a report from the company. Initially, Chromebook’s automatic updates were provided for three years, which was later extended to six years, and then to eight years in 2020. The purpose behind this support extension is to prolong the lifespan of equipment in schools that use Chromebooks in computer classes.

Starting next year, the new support policy will be implemented for devices sold after 2021. This means that Chromebooks released in 2021 and beyond will receive updates until 2031. As for devices released before 2021, users will also have the option to extend the update delivery time for up to 10 years from the platform’s release date, after receiving the last automatic update.
