Cyberurine at MGM Resorts halts hotels, casinos

MGM Resorts International, one of the largest hotel businesses in the entertainment industry, has announced a cyber incident that has affected several key systems. The malfunction has impacted the online booking system and casino services on the main site. Specifically, ATMs, slot machines, and credit card terminals were targeted.

On the social network X (previously known as Twitter), representatives from MGM Resorts International stated that immediate measures have been taken to protect data and internal systems. An investigation was launched as soon as suspicious activity was detected.

Due to the cyber incident, the computer services of the large resort hotels are currently non-functional. As a result, employees are manually handling all operations since ATMs and payment terminals are also disabled. Customers are encouraged to book rooms by phone, and participants of the MGM REWARDS loyalty program are advised to contact the support service.

All MGM Resorts network sites with the domain name mgmresorts.com have been unavailable for several hours.

Guests staying at some hotels have reported difficulties accessing their rooms as electronic keys are not functioning. Slot machines display a message stating “Temporarily Unavailable”.

At this time, the details of the incident and the motives of the attackers are undisclosed. It is worth mentioning that this is the second confirmed cyber incident the company has experienced since 2020. In the previous incident, over 10 million customer records, including names, dates of birth, email addresses, and phone numbers, were exposed on a hacker forum.
