Double Commander 1.1, a two-panel file manager, is now available. It aims to replicate the functionality of Total Commander and ensure compatibility with its plugins. The code base is currently estimated as a beta version. Three user interfaces are offered, based on GTK2, QT5, and QT6. The code is written in Pascal and is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
Some notable features of Double Commander include background operations, support for renaming groups of files using masks, a tab-based interface, the ability to have panels placed vertically or horizontally, a built-in text editor with syntax highlighting, virtual director-like functionality for working with archives, advanced search tools, customizable panels, support for Total Commander plugins in WCX, WDX, and WLX formats, and an operation log function.
The main changes in the latest release are as follows:
- Added support for the QT6 framework.
- A full-fledged terminal emulator has been implemented.
- A new dialog displaying file properties information has been added.
- Search functionality has been added to the settings dialog.
- Built-in image support for SVG format has been added.
- A new settings dialog for working with ZIP archives has been introduced in the plugin.
- A plugin for encoding and decoding data in Base64 format has been added.
- The file viewer now supports syntax highlighting and viewing office documents in formats based on XML.
- The file search interface now supports searching for contents in multiple encodings simultaneously.
- All color settings have been moved to the new Colors.json file, and adjustable version settings are now stored separately.
- Support for a dark design theme has been implemented on Windows 10 and 11 systems.
- A new edition for macOS has been built using the Cocoa API.
- Experimental support for Haiku OS has been added, in addition to Linux, FreeBSD, macOS, and Windows.
