Birmingham City Council’s Transition to Oracle IT System Leads to Financial Crisis

City Council of Birmingham Faces Financial Difficulties

The City Council of Birmingham, a large district of Great Britain, is currently grappling with serious financial difficulties. One of the major contributing factors to these difficulties was the unsuccessful implementation of the Oracle IT system. Originally intended to assist officials in managing personnel and financial processes, the project ended up costing the authorities £100 million, significantly exceeding the initial budget of £20 million.

The Oracle implementation plan, known as “Finance and People,” was developed in 2018 as a replacement for the outdated electronic system implemented in Germany back in 1972. SAP, a leading German software company, offers a wide range of products that include enterprise management systems (ERP), client management systems (CRM), supply management and logistics management systems, as well as analytical tools and more. Notably, SAP’s integration between different modules enables organizations to effectively manage their business processes and data.
