Criminology specialist and professor at the University of Georgia, David Maimon, recently discovered a video exposing a multinational criminal organization involved in stealing money from the US government and selling artificial intelligence tools to other criminals. The video was shared on Darknet and features a man named Sanchez, who claims to have been selling fake bank accounts from Chase (JPMorgan Chase) for the past four years.
David Maimon shared the video on his LinkedIn profile, shedding light on the dark world of cybercrime. The video serves as a glimpse into the vast underworld of criminal activities. Geywood Talkov, the CEO of Lexnexis Risk Solutions’ Government Group, stated that these criminal groups are responsible for most frauds related to the pandemic and are now utilizing generative AI to expand their operations.
Talkov warns that these criminal organizations, controlled by international hacker groups, could potentially steal over $1 trillion from the US government using artificial intelligence within the next year. One such group is the Mega Darknet Market, which employs AI technologies to create “mural accounts” that are used for fraudulent activities.
Apart from financial fraud, AI tools are provided to other criminals for various crimes such as sextortion, which has tragically resulted in several suicides. As a result, law enforcement agencies from the United States and other countries are advocating for international cooperation to tackle this new wave of cybercrime. The FBI and Interpol will need to collaborate to apprehend these criminals.
This video has sparked a call for action and international collaboration in the fight against cybercrime. It may serve as a turning point in understanding the scale and organization of modern cybercrime networks.
