Samba 4.19 Release: New Features and Improvements
After 6 months of development, Samba has presented its latest release. Samba is a multifunctional server product that also provides implementation file seal service and Winbind server.
Key changes in Samba 4.19:
- Smbget utility was transferred to the common code with other Samba utilities for analyzing command string parameters (earlier Parser was used in Smbget for this utility). The transition to a common parser made it possible to implement additional capabilities in SMBGET, such as authentication via Kerberos, but the cost of this was the termination of the support of the SMBGETRC file and violation of reverse compatibility at the level of options.
- The GPupdate team has an outdated LIBGPO.GET_GPO_List function, which was replaced by the implementation written in the Python language, which can be imported through the indication “Import Samba.gp”. To connect K. Active Directory in the new implementation involved the SAMDB module instead of ADS.
- Winbind capabilities associated with the maintenance of logs when indicating in SMB.conf the settings ‘Winbind Debug Traceid = YES’. Added support for new fields: ‘Traceid’ to reflect records in the log related to the same request, and ‘depth’ for maintaining the level of application level in the log. To simplify the analysis of the logs, the new utility Samba-Log-Parser is included in the composition.
- Active Directory database for the functional level of domain services Active Directory 2016 (Functional Level 2016) and storage scheme 2019 (
