The Logicmonitor Safety Company Faces Security Incident
The Logicmonitor Safety Company is dealing with the problem of hacking some of their customers due to the use of standard passwords, according to TechCrunch.
Logicmonitor’s representative, Jessica Daes, confirmed the presence of a security incident affecting a portion of the company’s clients. “At present, we are resolving the issue with security that has touched on a small number of our customers. We are in direct contact with these clients and closely cooperating to take appropriate measures to reduce the consequences,” said Daes.
According to the source affected by this incident, until recently, Logicmonitor provided its customers with simple standard passwords, such as “WelCome@” followed by a short number. The source stated, “When creating an account at Logicmonitor, this standard password was used for all accounts of your organization.” However, this week, a requirement was introduced to change the standard password within 30 days from the date of the first entrance.
One of Logicmonitor’s clients revealed that the company actively warned him about a possible security violation, which could lead to compromising the systems of Logicmonitor and an attack with extortion software.
The representative of Logicmonitor mentioned that the company cannot yet provide more information about the incident.
Additionally, it has come to light that another company lost more than 400 systems due to an extortion software attack as a result of using a weak standard password.
Logicmonitor offers a platform in the form of a service that provides customers with the opportunity to control their network infrastructure, including cloud solutions. On the official website, the company claims to track 800 billion indicators per day by three million active devices and has more than 100,000 software users in 30 different countries.
