Chrome Cuts Release Prep Cycle

Google recently made changes to its browser release cycle, opting for a shorter formation period. The time between the creation of a new branch and the beginning of beta testing will be reduced from 8 days to just 2 days. The stabilization of beta versions will still take place within 4 weeks, resulting in a faster overall process for preparing new releases.

The new release cycle will begin with Chrome 119, which was originally scheduled for November 7th but will now be released on October 31st. As a result of this change, the Chrome 120 branch will be formed on October 30th, and the release is set to take place on December 6th.

In addition, there have been recent reductions in the intermediate formation cycle updates to address vulnerabilities. Previously, within the 4-week cycle, corrective updates were released two weeks after each new release. However, with Chrome 116, these updates started to be formed weekly if there are vulnerabilities. Critical or actively exploited vulnerabilities will still be addressed outside of the regular schedule.
