Regolith Desktop 3.0 Offers Modern Desktop Environment for Enhanced Efficiency
Regolith Desktop 3.0, developed by the team behind Regolith Linux distribution, is now available. The environment is built on GNOME session management technology, the i3 window manager, and composite servers Picom and Sway. The project is distributed under the GPLV3 license and supports Ubuntu 20.04/22.04/23.04 and Debian 11/12. You can download the ready-to-use packages here.
Regolith Desktop 3.0 is designed to provide users with a modern desktop environment optimized for faster performance and increased productivity. It offers a functional and minimalistic interface that can be customized and expanded to meet individual preferences. This environment is particularly beneficial for beginners who are familiar with traditional window systems but want to explore mosaic window layouts.
In the latest release, the following features and improvements have been introduced:
- An experimental session based on the composite Sway server and the Wayland Protocol
- Use of the Picom composite server (a fork of Compton) in sessions based on the X11 protocol
- Updated i3 window manager to version 4.22
- Added support for fractional scaling on screens with resolutions above 1920×1080
- Implemented color visualization for the battery charge indicator
- Replaced three dots (“…”) with the symbol “…” in headings and tags with incomplete text
- Improved design theme
- Added diagnostic information about the current session
- Reworked the breakdown of user environment components into packages
- Added Gnome-Terminal to recommended packages
