IB company Blackwing Intelligence has praised the built-in Windows Hello fingerprint sensors found in the Dell Inspiron 15, Lenovo ThinkPad T14, and Microsoft Surface Pro X. These sensors, manufactured by Goodix, Synaptics, and Elan respectively, are match on chip sensors that integrate the functions of comparison and other biometric controls directly into the integral scheme sensor. This means that all fingerprint information is processed and stored within the sensor itself, without being transmitted to an external processor or storage.
However, while these sensors provide advanced security features, they do not prevent attacks like the “enemy in the middle” (MOC) attack.
The MOC attack is typically used for monitoring and/or traffic modifications, distribution of harmful software, and user redirects to phishing sites.
