Repository IPTV-Org Faces New Challenges Due to Actions of Spanish Football League Laliga
The popular IPTV-Org repository on GitHub, which offers a free IPTV flow index with over 8,000 television channels from around the world, has encountered new problems as a result of actions taken by Laliga, the Spanish football league.
Unlike paid IPTV services that often surpass legal platforms in terms of content selection and pricing, IPTV-Org provides its services completely free of charge. Similar services grant users access to a wide range of content without advertisements. Due to its diverse features, the IPTV-Org repository consistently holds high positions in the trends on GitHub.
One of the key features of IPTV-Org is the indexing of publicly available streams. This aspect makes the project a less obvious target for copyright holders, although the repository provides guidelines for copyright holders on how to request the removal of links. However, copyright holders cannot eliminate the streams themselves by simply deleting the links.
Laliga’s Battle Against Pirate IPTV and IPTV-Org
Laliga has long been engaged in a conflict with providers of pirate IPTV. In 2018, Laliga updated its Android application, turning fans’ phones into surveillance devices capable of detecting unauthorized broadcasts in bars and restaurants. This resulted in a significant fine for breaching privacy, but it did not deter Laliga from urging users to remotely remove pirate applications from their phones.
In addition, Laliga actively sends DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) notifications to various sites and services, including Google, requesting the removal of 1115 items.
The concept of URLs was originally created to indicate the location of various files on the Internet. Over time, URLs evolved to designate the addresses of all resources, regardless of their type.
