OpenMandriva has released version 5.0 of its openmandriva lx distributive after a year and a half of development. The project, which is now under the control of the non-profit organization “Openmandriva Association,” has presented a live assembly for download. This assembly is available for the Architecture X86_64 with KDE, Gnome, and LXQT. Additionally, server assembly and images for boards based on ARM64 architecture, such as Raspberry Pi 4, will be published soon. Users of the OpenMandriva Rome branch have already received all necessary updates without needing to separately download the distribution.
The main changes in the release include:
- Conducted reorganization of file system structures, where all executable files and libraries from the root directory have been moved to the /usr section. Directories such as /bin, /sbin, and /lib* are decorated as symbolic links to the corresponding directories inside /usr. More information can be found here.
- The Clang compiler used to assemble packages has been updated to the LLVM 17 branch. The distribution components, including the option of a Linux core assembled in Clang, can now be dispensed with.
- The system packages, including Linux 6.6.2, Systemd 254.5, GCC 13.1, Glibc 2.38, Binutils 2.41, and Calamares 3.2.62 installer, have been updated.
- The components of the desktop and the graphic stack have been updated, including KDE Plasma 5.27.9, KDE Frameworks 5.112, KDE Gear 08.23.3, LXQT 1.4, QT 5.15.11, Xorg 21.1.9, Wayland 23.2.2, and Mesa 23.3.0 RC4.3.
