LibreOffice Viewer on Google Play

The Document Foundation has recently announced the synchronization of Libreoffice Viewer Applications with the actual Libreoffice code base. This application has been placed in the Google Play directory, making it widely available to users.

Libreoffice Viewer is a document viewer that supports formats such as Open Document (ODT, ODS, ODP) and Microsoft Office (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, DOC, XLS, and PPT). It is based on the same engine used in the stationary office packet Libreofix. The interface of the viewer is built using Mozilla technologies, similar to those used in Firefox for Android.

While there is a regime for editing documents included in the settings, it is positioned as experimental. Users should note that the application requires Android 5.0 or newer versions of the platform to function properly. The installation file size for the application is approximately 77 MB.

Due to the lack of an accompanying Libreoffice Viewer, it was removed from Google Play in 2020 and remained stagnant for a long time. However, the recent introduction of Libreoffice Viewer to Google Play allows a wider range of users to access this package, not just enthusiasts who use the F-Droid catalog.
