Libreboot Announces Release of Free Loading Firmware
Libreboot has presented a new release of free loading firmware, known as libreboot20231106. This release is designated as a test output since stable releases are published approximately once a year, with the last stable release in June. The project aims to develop a complete assembly of the coreboot project, which offers a replacement for proprietary firmware UEFI and BIOS. These firmware components are responsible for initializing the CPU, memory, peripheral devices, and other equipment components while minimizing binary inserts. More information about the release can be found here.
Libreboot focuses on creating a systemic environment that minimizes the use of proprietary components, not only at the operating system level but also in the firmware that provides loading. It complements Coreboot by simplifying its use for end users and forming a ready-made distribution that can be easily used by individuals without specialized skills.
The latest release includes support for the Intel D945GCLF motherboard for PCs and a separate branch has been developed for the Dell Latitude E6400 laptop firmware. Additionally, numerous changes have been made to the assembly system.
The following equipment is supported in Libreboot:
