Fedora Asahi Remix 39 Released for Apple ARM Chips

Introducing Fedora Asahi Remix 39: A New Linux Distribution for Apple Mac Computers with ARM Chips

Fedora Asahi Remix 39, a distribution specifically designed for Apple Mac computers equipped with ARM chips, has been officially presented. This new release is based on the Fedora Linux 39 package base and features a Calamares installer. It marks the first publication of the ASAHI project under the Fedora umbrella, following its transition from Arch. The development of Fedora Asahi Remix is led by the Fedora Asahi SIG, and this transition will allow the ASAHI Linux team to focus more on optimizing support for reverse-engineering Apple hardware.

The release of Fedora Asahi Remix 39 brings compatibility to various Apple Mac models including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, iMac with M1 chip, and the upcoming iMac with M2 chip. The main user environment provided is KDE Plasma, with the option of GNOME available as well. Both editions utilize the Wayland display server, with XWayland DDX serving as the launcher for X11 applications. Graphics drivers in this release support OpenGL 3.3 and OpenGL ES 3.1. Additionally, full support for the sound subsystem of Apple composers is ensured.
