The release of a specialized distribution, Dietpi 8.25, designed for use on single-pay PCs based on ARM and RISC-V architectures, has been published by Dietpi. This distribution is built on the DEBIAN and is available in assemblies for more than 50 boards, including Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, Nanopi, Bananapi, Beaglebone Black, Rock64, Rock Pi, QUARTZ64, Pine64, ASUS Tinker, Odroid, and Visionfi VE 2. Additionally, Dietpi can be used to create a compact environment for virtual machines and conventional PCs based on the X86_64 architecture. The build assemblies take up less space on the drive compared to Raspberry Pi OS and Armbian.
The project is optimized for minimal resource consumption and includes various utilities developed by Dietpi, such as the Dietpi-Software application interface, Dietpi-Config configurator, Dietpi-Backup reserve copying system, Dietpi-Ramlog temporary logs, and the interface for installations of priorities of the Dietpi-Services processes and the Dietpi-Update update system. These utilities provide a console user interface with a menu and dialogue based on Whiptail. Furthermore, the distribution supports complete automation of installation, allowing for installation on the board without user participation.
The new version of Dietpi has updated the assemblies based on the Debian 11 and Debian 12 repositories. It has also added support for the Orange Pi 3B board based on the ARM architecture and Pine64 Star64 on the RISC-V architecture. Additionally, initial support for the Raspberry Pi 5 board has been added. The support for Raspberry Pi and QUARTZ64 has been improved, with enhancements such as Linux 6.6.7 and U-Boot 2023.10 for the quartz64 boards.
