Debian, the popular Linux distribution, is gradually ending support for the 32-bit X86 architecture, also known as i386. A decision has been made to cease the development of official installation assemblies and packages with a core specifically designed for 32-bit X86 systems. However, a package repository will still be maintained, and users will have the option to deploy 32-bit environments in isolated containers.
The Multi-ARCH-Ro-Posteria supply and tools to support the compilation and execution of 32-bit applications in the 64-bit X86_64 environment will continue to be provided. This ensures compatibility and helps bridge the transition from 32-bit to 64-bit systems.
The plan for the gradual end of support for the 32-bit X86 architecture may be implemented in Debian’s upcoming release, version 13 “Trixie,” expected in 2025.
