Atomic Updated Distribution Endless OS 5.1 Released

News Report: Endless OS 5.1 Released with New Features

After ten months of development, endless OS 5.1 has been released. The operating system aims to create a simple system with a user-friendly interface and the ability to quickly choose applications according to individual preferences. Applications are distributed in the form of self-sufficient packages in Flatpak format.

The loading images offered for download range in size from 1.1 GB to 18 GB. To download the OS, visit the Endless website.

Unlike traditional package managers, Endless OS does not rely on them. Instead, it uses a minimum atomarly updated basic system that operates in read-only mode, formed using OSTREE tools. The system image is atomarly updated from a GIT-like storage. Similar ideas have been implemented by developers of Fedora through the Silverblue project, as well as the creators of vanilla os, tau-os, and Pop!_Os.

The installer and renewal system of Endless OS, known as IngomeOS, is actively involved in the development of upstream projects. For example, in the release of GTK+ 3.22, about 9.8% of all changes were prepared by developers from Endless. Endless Mobile, the company overseeing the project, is a member of the GNOME Foundation’s Supervisory Council, alongside FSF, Debian, Google, Linux Founding, Red Hat, and SUSE.
