Libreboot, a project that develops the free loading firmware coreboot, has presented the release of the latest version called libreboot 20231021. This release is considered a test release, with stable releases typically published once a year (the last stable release was in June).
The main goal of Libreboot is to create a system environment that eliminates the need for proprietary software, not only at the operating system level but also at the firmware level. Coreboot replaces the proprietary UEFI and BIOS firmware, which is responsible for initializing CPU, memory, peripheral devices, and other hardware components, with minimized binary inserts.
Libreboot not only complements Coreboot, but also simplifies its use for end users by providing a ready-made distribution that can be easily used by any user, even those without specialized skills.
